My expectations were low-average, given what I know about the book business, no reflection on you. Know that I experienced the book as a former English teacher, bookseller, and pet lover. I thought it would be too cutesy, as the market is inundated with cute. I thought it would be too personal and not informative enough.

I was forced out of my criticism, however, by your incredible ability to bring it all together from the brink. I was about to critique the very personal quality of your voice when you socked me with all sorts of facts and history and knowledge couched within that wonderful, warm, and funny register.
